The family of Twisha Sharma on Wednesday alleged serious lapses in the investigation into her alleged dowry death case and demanded that a second post-mortem examination be conducted at AIIMS Delhi instead of AIIMS Bhopal.
Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old resident of Noida, died on May 12, nearly five months after marrying Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and mental torture.
Police have registered a case against her husband and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
Advocate Ankur Pandey, counsel for the victim’s family, alleged that investigative agencies had mishandled the case from the beginning and were attempting to influence the medical examination process at AIIMS Bhopal to weaken the case.
“The incident occurred on May 12 and since then the investigative agencies have mishandled this case. They are trying every possible way to contaminate the procedure of AIIMS and the investigation only with the intention to weaken the case,” Pandey told ANI.
The lawyer claimed that the initial post-mortem conducted on May 13 was incomplete because the ligature material was allegedly not available at the time of examination.
He questioned why AIIMS Bhopal had not sought the ligature earlier and alleged that the victim’s family had been pressured to cremate the body before key forensic procedures were completed.
Pandey further said the body’s condition was deteriorating with time and claimed AIIMS Bhopal had informed the family that it lacked facilities to preserve the body for an extended duration.
He said the family had therefore requested that a re-postmortem be conducted at AIIMS Delhi, where better preservation and forensic facilities were available.
The family’s lawyer also raised concerns over an alleged discrepancy in Sharma’s recorded height. According to him, her modelling profile and personal records indicated a height of around 172 to 173 cm, while AIIMS Bhopal documents reportedly mentioned it as 161 cm.

He alleged that such inconsistencies raised doubts about the integrity of the investigation and medical documentation.
Twisha Sharma’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, accused authorities of attempting to suppress evidence and said the family had “lost hope of justice” in Madhya Pradesh.
He appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the matter and order an independent inquiry.
“The entire state machinery is working to shield an accused individual,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, the victim’s cousin Ashish Sharma said the family had repeatedly sought a second autopsy but feared permission would not be granted despite approaching the court.
