In an initiative to increase voter participation, the district administration in Shopian felicitated voters who were among the first to report on the polling stations on Wednesday.
The exercise was aimed at encouraging voters to participate in the ongoing elections in large numbers.
District Shopian has been affected by militancy for over a decade and has been a hotbed of militancy since 2011.
These voters who reported early were given appreciation certificates and gifts as a gesture of acknowledgement for their commitment to the democratic process.
This initiative was part of a broader effort announced by the District Election Officer (DEO) of Shopian just days before the polls to encourage better voter participation in the area.
By offering incentives such as gift vouchers and certificates, the administration aimed to motivate residents to cast their votes early and ensure better overall turnout.
First-time voters, along with those who arrived early at polling stations, were specifically targeted in this campaign and received special recognition.
Voting began at 7:00 a.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m.
There are 24 constituencies up for polls in the first phase of the three phase J&K assembly elections, which are happening after a decade.
Officials are expecting a good voter turnout since there is enthusiasm witnessed among the voters.
