A political dispute has erupted between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of attempting to remove his wife’s name from the voters’ list before the upcoming assembly elections.

At a press conference with his wife Anita Singh, Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP was trying to delete the names of Purvanchali people—those from Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who have lived in Delhi for years and make up a significant voter group.

He claimed that two applications were submitted on December 25 and 26 to remove his wife’s name from the New Delhi constituency's voter list, which is represented by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.

Singh further alleged that the BJP’s actions were in retaliation for his raising concerns in the Rajya Sabha about the removal of Purvanchali voters’ names from the list.

Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Voter Manipulation Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of trying to manipulate the voter list in New Delhi before the Delhi Assembly elections. He said over 5,000 votes had been targeted for deletion since mid-December.

Kejriwal stated, "The BJP has already lost the elections. They don't have a chief ministerial candidate, and they only want to win by manipulating votes, but we won’t let them succeed."

Kejriwal also revealed that the BJP had filed 11,000 voter deletion requests in one constituency, but these were stopped by the Chief Election Commissioner after being exposed. He added that since December 15, 5,000 voter deletion requests and 7,500 additions had been made in the New Delhi constituency.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri criticises Kejriwal Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri criticised Kejriwal, accusing him of losing his "mental equilibrium" after making allegations about the BJP running an “Operation Lotus” in his constituency. Puri suggested that Kejriwal’s time in power had affected his judgment.

BJP Attacks AAP Over Rohingya and Bangladeshi Voters Meanwhile, the BJP accused AAP of adding the names of illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants to the voter list. The BJP claimed that AAP was helping these immigrants settle in Delhi by providing official documents, turning them into a vote bank.

Former BJP MP Parvesh Verma alleged that AAP leaders helped immigrants settle in Jhuggis (shanties) and gave them documents like ration cards to secure their votes.

A BJP delegation recently met with the Election Commission, alleging that illegal immigrants were being registered as voters in Delhi with AAP’s help. Earlier this week, Delhi Police arrested 11 people in connection with a gang involved in the illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals.

Four of those arrested were Bangladeshi citizens, and the others were accused of making forged documents.
