Prashant Kishor yesterday said he won't contest the polls and would focus on organisational work

Anurag Thakur has taken a swipe at Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor.

Senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur took a sharp swipe at Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor for deciding not to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, likening him to a "general" who fled before the battle. Thakur, a former Union Minister who arrived in Patna today to campaign for the BJP, “The general has fled. What will happen to the Army?”

During the same interaction, Thakur was asked why there is no Muslim among the BJP's 101 candidates for the Bihar elections. He responded, “We give tickets based on winnability. We focus on Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. We do not provide facilities to people based on religion and caste. The one who can win gets the ticket.”

Putting an end to speculation about which seat he would contest from, Kishor confirmed in an interview on Wednesday that he would not participate in the polls. “Jan Suraaj decided I should concentrate on organisational work and not contest,” Kishor said.

The poll strategist-turned-politician predicted a decisive defeat for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar, asserting that the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), led by Nitish Kumar, would struggle to win even 25 seats. He stated, “The NDA is definitely on its way out and Nitish Kumar will not return as Chief Minister.”

Setting an ambitious target for his party, Kishor declared that “anything less than 150 seats” would constitute a “defeat” for Jan Suraaj. Earlier, the BJP had claimed that Kishor’s decision stemmed from his realisation that the ground situation was unfavourable. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said, “Prashant Kishor is a very smart businessman, and he has also had a lot of experience in running election campaigns.

Perhaps, the businessman and former election campaigner in him has realised that the real situation on the ground is not favourable for him or his party and that if he loses this election, then his business enterprise will have no takers in the future.”

Polling for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results scheduled to be declared on November 14.
