Cross-voting marred Tuesday's election in Uttar Pradesh, when the Samajwadi Party won the other two seats and the BJP took eight Rajya Sabha seats. 

 

Making BJP win 8, Samajwadi only 2 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Jaya Bachchan got the most votes. Also Star BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi wins Rajya Sabha election with 38 votes. Alok Ranjan from the Samajwadi lost the close contest as the MLAs were found cross voting making the BJP's 8th candidate win.

Actor-MP Jaya Bachchan, retired IAS officer Alok Ranjan, and Dalit politician Ramji Lal Suman were the candidates put forth by the Samajwadi Party.

 

With the BJP fielding its eighth candidate, there was expected to be a fierce competition in one of the seats. The ruling BJP and the main opposition SP had sufficient numbers to send seven and three MPs, respectively, to the Rajya Sabha without opposition.

 

Former Union Minister RPN Singh, former MP Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, former state minister Sangeeta Balwant (Bind), general secretary of the party's Uttar Pradesh unit Amarpal Maurya, former MLA Sadhna Singh, former mayor of Agra Naveen Jain, and industrialist Sanjay Seth are the BJP candidates who have won. 

 

Voting took place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Returning Officer Brijbhushan Dubey stated, "The results are likely to be declared tonight. The counting of votes will start at 5:00 pm." Voting were cast by a number of prominent figures, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, and President of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav. 

 

Concerns of cross-voting and the resignation of SP chief whip Manoj Pandey during the polls prompted Yadav to threaten to take action against these MLAs. "Those who sought to take advantage of the circumstances will leave. Before casting his vote, Yadav informed reporters at the assembly, "Those who were given assurances (by the BJP) will go."

 

"The BJP is capable of using any tactic to win elections. Some MLAs must have been assured of a benefit by it. "BJP will stop at nothing to win," he continued. "Those who lack the bravery to stand up will fall." Some may have felt intimidated or offered anything, while others may have been terrified for their safety."

 

Four Karnataka seats, ten Uttar Pradesh seats, and one Himachal Pradesh seat have their election results released. With three seats, the Congress secured the majority, while the BJP secured one seat. A BJP MLA cast a cross-party vote, and another did not cast a ballot. JD(S) lost its nomination. GC Chandrasekhar, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Ajay Maken are the triumphant candidates for the Congress. Narayana Bandage is the BJP candidate who has won.
