Mamata Banerjee declares no house, car or property in affidavit; reports modest income and assets in Bhabanipur nomination filing.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, widely known as “Didi” for her simple lifestyle and grassroots appeal, has once again underscored her modest means in the affidavit submitted along with her nomination papers for the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.  Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo filed her nomination on Wednesday at the Survey Building in Alipore. As per the affidavit, Mamata does not own a house, car, or any significant immovable property in her name—continuing a pattern that aligns with her long-cultivated image of simplicity.

According to the declaration, her income has varied in recent financial years. In 2024–25, her total income stood at Rs 23,21,570, compared to Rs 20,72,740 in 2023–24. Her earnings peaked in 2021–22 at Rs 38,14,410. The affidavit also notes a TDS refund of Rs 40,600 in the 2025–26 financial year.

At the time of filing her nomination, Mamata reported Rs 75,700 in cash. The majority of her savings are held in an Indian Bank account with a balance of Rs 12,36,209.71. Additionally, she maintains a separate account for election-related expenses, which currently holds Rs 40,000. Her total bank deposits amount to Rs 12,76,209.71.

Reflecting her austere lifestyle, Mamata’s jewelry holdings are minimal. She owns 9 grams and 750 milligrams of gold, valued at approximately Rs 1,45,000. The total value of her movable assets stands at Rs 15,37,509.71.

Notably, the Chief Minister has declared that she does not own any agricultural or non-agricultural land, residential property, or private vehicle. The affidavit further confirms that she has no loans or liabilities in her name.

Mamata, who has served as Chief Minister for over 15 years, continues to project an image of personal austerity even as she remains one of the most prominent political figures in the state.
