All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called for the resignation of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, following the LG’s admission of a security lapse that led to the deadly terror attack near Pahalgam. Speaking to reporters in Nanded, Maharashtra, on Wednesday, Owaisi said that since Sinha has publicly accepted responsibility for the intelligence failure, he must step down.

The April 22 attack at Baisaran near Pahalgam claimed 26 lives. Owaisi, the Hyderabad MP, condemned the incident, saying, “Twenty-six Indians were brutally killed in Pahalgam after they were asked their religion and because they were Hindus. If the LG is in so much pain and has taken responsibility, he should resign.”

He further criticised the timing of Sinha’s remarks, pointing out, “You (J&K LG) merely admit this when your tenure is nearing its end. That is not enough—accountability is required.”

Owaisi also said he would press the Modi government for answers during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. “We will ask the government who is responsible for the Pahalgam attack. Who allowed such a lapse? How did the terrorists reach the location? Why was there no police deployment or security cover? These questions must be answered,” he said.

Owaisi had recently returned from a multi-party delegation visit to Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria, where the delegation highlighted India’s anti-terror efforts, including Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam attack. He reiterated that the incident was a clear case of intelligence and security failure, and demanded transparency and accountability from both the Union government and the J&K administration.
