The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) filed a complaint against the BJP on Tuesday, accusing it of using "intimidation tactics" to push people to vote for the Apni Party's nominee. 

 

Speaking to reporters here, Mehbooba Mufti said Bhargav should be charged under the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and sent to Delhi's Tihar Jail.

 

Launching a scathing attack, Mufti said, "This is their true face..." "If someone else had said the same thing, he would already be in Tihar jail.”

 

Bhargav had said, “Remember, there will come many occasions when you may be given wounds like the ones we got during 1947, which we have not been able to forget so far.” It was deemed to be a controversial remark aimed at Muslim voters in the region. 

 

Poonch district is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat, and the Election Commission postponed the May 25 polls.

 

Mufti, head of the PDP, and Mian Altaf, leader of the National Conference, are facing off in the constituency. 

 

Among the 19 other candidates, Mohammad Saleem Parray of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and J&K Apni Party head Zafar Iqbal Khan Manhas stand out.

 

Although BJP had expelled Sumit Bhargav over his controversial remarks about the Muslims in Poonch district. 

 

BJP UT chief Ravinder also confirmed that the Bhargav was expelled from the party for six years. 

 

He added, “Such hateful comments from the senior leader are unacceptable and that BJP will not tolerate this kind of comments.”

 

Furthermore, the Election Commission of India has summoned BJP party president JP Nadda and Congress chairman Mallikarjun Kharge over hate speeches made by their star campaigners during election rallies.
