PM Modi and Amit Shah have OCD about Nehru, says Jairam Ramesh

The Congress chief whip in the Rajya Sabha accused Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah of lacking answers for their current 'failures.'

On Tuesday, the Indian National Congress launched a strong counter-attack against the ruling government, specifically targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. This followed a significant government offensive against the Congress and its leaders during a session in the Lok Sabha. The Congress's response centered on the accusation that both Modi and Shah were afflicted with an 'obsessive-compulsive disorder' regarding India's first Prime Minister, the late Jawaharlal Nehru.

Jairam Ramesh, the Congress chief whip in the Rajya Sabha, spearheaded this charge. He criticised Modi and Shah for their persistent "attacks" on Nehru. In a statement, Ramesh remarked, "Yesterday in the Lok Sabha, both the HM and the PM once again showed that they suffer from what in medical language is called obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) when it comes to Jawaharlal Nehru." He also anticipated a similar display of this behaviour in the Rajya Sabha session scheduled for the same day.

Ramesh further elaborated on the Congress's position, alleging that the government's fixation on Nehru was a tactic to evade accountability. He claimed that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister lacked substantial answers for their current-day "failures."

According to Ramesh, "They have no answers to legitimate questions that are being raised on their policies and actions." He accused them of resorting to diversionary tactics instead of participating in a constructive and meaningful debate. "Instead of engaging in meaningful debate, they divert, distract, distort, and defame," Ramesh stated.

In a direct jibe at Home Minister Amit Shah, who had presented historical claims during the Lok Sabha session, Ramesh mockingly referred to him as a "historian of sorts." He then delivered a sharp criticism, calling Shah "India's second greatest 'distorian'," a portmanteau of "distort" and "historian." Ramesh reserved the top spot for this dubious distinction for Prime Minister Modi, whom he sarcastically referred to as "the man qualified in Entire Poli(e)tical Science." This was a clear reference to Modi's academic background and a well-known public remark he had previously made about his degree.
