Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited Patna on Saturday, where he met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Earlier in the day, the Congress MP addressed the 'Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan' during his visit to Bihar. In his speech, Rahul Gandhi criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's caste census, calling it "fake." He emphasised the need for a genuine caste census across India to understand the country's true social and economic landscape.
“The caste census must reflect reality. It cannot be like the fake caste census conducted in Bihar. Policies should be based on accurate caste data. The Congress will ensure the passage of a proper caste census in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. We will also push to remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations,” he stated.

Rahul Gandhi also took aim at the BJP, accusing them of giving representation to backward communities and Dalits while taking away their actual power. “They appoint their own people in every institution, ensuring the power remains with them,” he alleged.
Additionally, Rahul Gandhi criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over his reported remarks questioning the significance of August 15, 1947, as Independence Day. He accused the RSS of undermining the values of BR Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi, stating, “We want the Constitution’s ideology to flow like the waters of the Ganga, reaching every individual and institution in the country.”
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh responded sharply to Rahul Gandhi's comments, calling him the “leader of fake narratives.” Singh pointed out that the Bihar caste census, conducted under the JDU-RJD-Congress alliance, was the basis of Rahul’s demands for a nationwide caste census, questioning his criticism now.
Rahul Gandhi's visit coincided with ongoing protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants, adding to the political tensions in the state.
