Shah’s Bengal blitz begins with ‘chargesheet’ on TMC rule

Party insiders indicate that the chargesheet will outline alleged shortcomings of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government across 14 key sectors, focusing on what the BJP describes as a “decline” during the past 15 years of Banerjee’s rule. The document is also expected to target senior party leadership, including TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Amit Shah to visit Kolkata ahead of Bengal polls, set to unveil chargesheet against Mamata Banerjee govt as BJP intensifies campaign.

Amid the intensifying political atmosphere ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Kolkata once again, with the BJP preparing to sharpen its electoral offensive against the ruling dispensation.

According to party sources, Shah is scheduled to arrive in the city at 11:40 pm on Friday. Senior state BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, state president Samik Bhattacharya, and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, are expected to receive him at the airport.

On Saturday at around noon, Shah is slated to address a press conference at a city hotel, where he is expected to release a ‘chargesheet’ against the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The move is being seen as a strategic step by the BJP to step up its campaign before unveiling its full-fledged election manifesto at a later stage.

Even as candidate announcements remain pending for 19 constituencies, the BJP has already accelerated its campaign activities across the state. In the lead-up to Ram Navami, the party has organised a series of outreach programmes to strengthen its connection with voters.

The visit also comes in the backdrop of repeated assertions by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has indicated that after electoral successes in states like Bihar and Odisha, the BJP is now focused on expanding its footprint in West Bengal.

With candidate lists already released in multiple phases and campaign strategies involving top leadership nearing finalisation, Shah’s visit is expected to further energise the party’s poll push. The upcoming chargesheet, positioned ahead of the manifesto, signals an aggressive campaign approach as the BJP gears up for a high-stakes electoral battle in the state.
