Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a controversial remark on Saturday, claiming that the fashion sense of women in the state improved after he took office two decades ago. His statement sparked a sharp response from RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Yadav, who was once Kumar's deputy, criticised the Bihar CM for his comments, saying that he was not a "fashion designer" and that his views showed a "warped mentality."
The RJD leader shared a video on social media where Kumar was heard saying, "Girls have become so confident. They speak so well and dress up so well. Did we see them wearing such fine clothes earlier?"
Kumar, who is also the JD(U) chief, made these remarks while attending the 'Pragati Yatra' in Begusarai district.
Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, responded with a post on social media using the hashtag "ShameOnNitish."

He said, "It’s not true that the daughters of Bihar did not wear good clothes before. They dressed with self-respect and self-reliance."
Yadav further criticised Kumar, saying, "Don’t try to be a fashion designer for women. Your thinking is warped, and your statement insults half of the population." He added that the Bihar CM’s comments were disrespectful to women.
Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls, Yadav has been making efforts to appeal to women voters, including promising a monthly stipend if his party, RJD, is voted into power.
