Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) routed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 55 runs in an IPL thriller between the two teams that had already qualified for the playoff stages.
RCB wanted either a clear and decisive win or at least their net run rate to stay above SRH’s, even in defeat. However, odds were more complicated for the SRH, which needed a win but with a decisive margin to stay at the top of the table, since it gives some advantages to the team.
While SRH managed to win the match, RCB ensured they did enough in the 256-run chase to retain top spot in the IPL 2026 points table and seal a place in Qualifier 1.
The match went straight into heated on-field exchanges between Virat Kohli and Travis Head, which grabbed attention and later became a talking point after it spilt over into the customary post-match handshakes.
When Kohli came out to bat, a heated exchange unfolded with his SRH counterpart, Head, during the game. However, the game witnessed fierce hitting, with batters from both sides smashing boundaries and sixes at regular intervals. Though it remains unclear what triggered the banter, Kohli appeared to gesture towards Head to come and bowl, even making the ‘Impact Sub’ signal.
Head has largely been used by SRH as a specialist batter this season before being replaced by a bowler while fielding.
Earlier, SRH posted 255 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs, while RCB scored 200 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs, leaving a 55-run difference between the two teams.
