A 10-year-old girl from Bilaspur district in Himachal Pradesh has been placed under the care of the Women and Child Development Department after she reached out to the child helpline 1098, alleging that she was being physically and mentally abused by her parents, officials said on Tuesday.
In her complaint, the girl claimed that her parents frequently beat and scolded her, creating a constant sense of fear and tension at home. Acting on her call, the department immediately informed the Bharari police station about the situation.
A police team, led by a female officer, visited the minor’s home to assess the situation. The officers warned her parents against using any form of physical punishment or verbal abuse in the future and tried to reassure the girl that her parents would now treat her with care.
Despite repeated efforts by the police to calm her, the girl firmly refused to return home.
Panchayat representatives were also called in to mediate, but the child remained adamant in her decision. Later, officials from the Women and Child Development Department had to step in and take her under their protection.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishal Verma confirmed that the girl is now safe under the department’s care, and a detailed investigation into the allegations has been initiated. The girl’s family consists of her parents, a younger brother, and her grandmother.
