The Punjab Police have intensified their efforts to eradicate drug networks, disrupt supply chains, and ensure a drug-free state, officials said. In a recent operation, the authorities seized 12.07 kg of heroin and ₹25.12 lakh in cash connected to drug trafficking and hawala dealings. An FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered at Ghall Khurd police station, with investigations ongoing to expose further links.
Earlier on Wednesday, the police cracked an international narcotics smuggling cartel, arresting one accused with 5 kg of heroin. The arrested individual, identified as Shiva (alias Sodhi), had reportedly been in contact with foreign traffickers for two years. His arrest dealt a significant blow to the smuggling network. An FIR under the NDPS Act has also been registered at the Jalandhar police station as part of the investigation.
Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) reaffirmed the force’s dedication to dismantling drug syndicates, disrupting cross-border narcotics routes, and maintaining a drug-free state.
On May 20, in a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Ferozepur Police, arresting two smugglers and recovering 2.20 kg of heroin along with a motorcycle used in the smuggling operations. An FIR under the NDPS Act was registered at Sadar Police Station, Ferozepur.
Earlier on Monday, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized pistol parts, two drones, and two packets of heroin at multiple locations along the Punjab border.
"Today, acting on credible information of the BSF intelligence wing, 02 drones, pistol parts and 02 packets of heroin were seized by the BSF troops in multiple incidents on the Punjab border. An extensive search by the BSF troops today culminated in the recovery of one DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone along with one packet of suspected heroin with a gross weight of 506 grams at about from a farming field adjacent to Noorwala village of Tarn Taran district," the BSF said in a statement.
Later in the afternoon hours, the BSF troops recovered one DJI Air 3 drone in burnt condition from a farming field adjacent to Wan village in Tarn Taran.
