Fourteen migrant workers from Giridih, Hazaribagh and Bokaro districts of Jharkhand have been stuck for the past several months in Dubai and have sought immediate government help.
The workers alleged that the company they are employed with is forcing them to work beyond stipulated hours while failing to pay their wages. Due to non-payment of salaries for nearly three months, they are struggling to arrange food, accommodation and other daily necessities.
Some of them have reportedly been pushed to the brink of starvation.
The stranded workers have shared their plight through a video message, appealing to the Government of India and the Jharkhand government for urgent help. The video was sent to social activist Sikandar Ali, who works on issues related to migrant labourers, and was later shared with the media.
Raising the matter, Ali urged both the central and state governments to initiate concrete and effective diplomatic measures to ensure the safe return of the workers stranded in Dubai.
The activist also referred to another unresolved case, stating that Vijay Kumar Mahto, a migrant worker from Doodhpania village under Madhgopali Panchayat in the Dumri police station area of Giridih district, had died in Saudi Arabia on October 23, 2025.
Even after three months, neither his body has been brought back to India nor has any compensation been provided to his family.
According to the workers, all of them had gone to Dubai in October 2025 to work on transmission line projects for EMC Company. However, none of them has received regular wages for the past three months.
They have once again appealed to the authorities to intervene immediately and arrange their safe return to the country.
The stranded workers include Roshan Kumar and Ajay Kumar from Chichaki under Sariya police station area of Giridih district, Rajesh Mahto from Tirla and Ajay Kumar from Dumardeli under Bagodar police station area, and Daleshwar Mahto from Kanjkiro under Penk Narayanpur police station area of Bokaro district.
From Hazaribagh district, those stuck in Dubai include Jageshwar Mahto and Phalendra Mahto from Khedadih under Vishnugarh police station area, Baijnath Mahto from Sirey, Dilip Mahto, Gangadhar Mahto and Triloki Mahto from Parjoriya, Deepak Kumar from Chakchuko Basariya, and Rohit Mahto and Seva Mahto from Gorhar.
The families of the workers are anxiously awaiting government action as the situation of the stranded labourers continues to worsen abroad.
