In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police apprehended 14 members of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction) in Thoubal district, officials confirmed on Monday.

The operation took place on Sunday in Haokhong village, under Nongpok Sekmai police station limits. Security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including two INSAS rifles, eight magazines of INSAS light machine guns, five INSAS rifle magazines, and 100 rounds of INSAS ammunition.

Rs 1 lakh in cash and five helmets were also seized from the group. The arrested individuals have been identified, including Nameirakpam Kondum Meitei, alias Lanheiba, 46, of Khumbong Makha Leikai, Imphal West district, and Sorokhaibam Rosesh, among others, according to Manipur Police.

Police officials said further investigations are underway to determine the group’s activities and possible links with other militant factions in the region.

In a separate operation in Churachandpur district, security forces recovered explosives and arms from the K. Geljang area during a search operation. Items seized included one RPG grenade, three 30 mm grenades, one 81 mm mortar bomb, one improvised explosive device (IED), two 40 mm grenades, two single-barrel rifles, and seven rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition.

Authorities said the twin operations were part of ongoing counter-insurgency measures to curb militant activities in Manipur and ensure public safety.

The Manipur Police have urged local residents to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activity. The arrests are seen as a significant step in dismantling the operational capacity of the UNLF (K) in the state.

The crackdown comes amid heightened vigilance in the region, following multiple recent seizures of arms and explosives from insurgent hideouts. Police officials have maintained that such proactive measures are critical in preventing militant attacks and safeguarding communities across the northeastern state.
