As many as 15 flights were cancelled at Srinagar International Airport after a fresh snowfall in the upper reaches and rainfall in the plains of the Kashmir valley disrupted flight operations, officials said on Sunday.
According to officials at the airport, “15 flights were cancelled today due to bad weather at Srinagar airport.”
They said two more inbound flights from Jammu and Delhi were also suspended amid prevailing weather conditions. These cancellations were attributed to the low visibility and continuous snowfall in the higher reaches, they said.
The Airport Authority of India confirmed that several flights remained grounded, awaiting clearance, while resumption depends on whether there is improvement.
Officials confirmed that at least four flights were waiting for departure at the respective hangars of Srinagar Airport, while two flights were scheduled to arrive later in the day.

They said the resumption of the flight operations would depend on an improvement in weather conditions. However, the MeT office in Srinagar has predicted more rain and snowfall over the next 48 hours.
Ground staff from various airlines reported that passengers are being kept informed, with operations on hold pending authorisation.
Flight delays and cancellations are part of the routine operations at Srinagar Airport, especially in the winter months, since the weather pattern in the valley changes quickly.
While local travellers are accustomed to the frequent changes, other travellers, particularly tourists and visitors, face many difficulties due to the delays and cancellations of their flights.
