Rescue personnel clear debris after a rain-triggered landslide at a construction site in Lohit district, Arunachal Pradesh, where two Bihar labourers were killed and four others injured.

Two labourers from Bihar were killed and four others injured after a rain-triggered landslide struck a construction site in Arunachal Pradesh's Lohit district, officials said.

The incident occurred around 12:45 pm on Tuesday when a portion of a hillside gave way following incessant rainfall, burying several workers under debris, Lohit Superintendent of Police Thutan Jamba said.

Rescue teams comprising personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Arunachal Pradesh Police, the district administration and other emergency agencies launched a search and rescue operation soon after the incident.

Four injured workers were rescued from the debris and shifted to hospital for treatment, while the bodies of two labourers were later recovered. Another worker reportedly managed to escape before rescue teams arrived.

The deceased were identified as Bipin Kumar (33) and Rahul Kumar (26), both natives of Bihar.

Police said one of the injured is undergoing treatment at the Lohit Zonal General Hospital. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Tezu Police Station, and an investigation is underway.

The tragedy comes as Arunachal Pradesh continues to grapple with heavy rainfall that has triggered floods and landslides across several districts.

In Lohit district, floodwaters have reportedly inundated more than 40 houses in Shivaji Nagar, prompting the district administration and disaster management authorities to intensify rescue and relief operations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable parts of the state, urging residents to remain cautious.
