A shocking triple murder has come to light in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, where a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his parents and younger brother and attempted to murder his five-year-old nephew at their home in Sawanga village, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place within the Kotwali police station area. The accused, identified as Deepak Dhurve, was arrested on the spot.
According to police, neighbours grew suspicious after noticing the family’s gate remained open until Thursday afternoon. When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, villagers peeped through a window and were horrified to see Deepak sitting inside near the motionless bodies of his parents and brother.
Villagers immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the scene and took the accused into custody. Investigators said the victims were allegedly attacked with an iron rod. The accused also allegedly tried to kill his nephew, who is currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment.
Superintendent of Police Virendra Kumar Jain identified the deceased as Raju alias Hansu Dhurve (55), Kamalti Dhurve (40), and Dilip Dhurve (20), all residents of Sawanga village.
“The door remained open, and no one responded despite repeated calls, which raised suspicion among neighbours. When they looked inside, they were disturbed by the scene. The door was then broken open, and Deepak Dhurve was found present at the spot,” Jain said.
Police said blood stains were visible inside the room, indicating a violent attack. The motive behind the killings remains unclear, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are questioning the accused to determine the circumstances that led to the crime.
