A 99-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by a robber, who later hid her body inside an iron trunk at her home in Hoshiarpur village. According to the police, the victim, Joginder Kaur, was living alone at her house in Bham village in the Chabbewal area. Her body was discovered on Wednesday evening. It had been stuffed inside a trunk and there were injury marks on her head.
According to officials, the incident came to light after the person who delivers milk to her house every evening noticed something unusual. On Wednesday, he saw that the milk bottle he had left at her door the previous evening was still lying there untouched. Finding this strange, he informed the neighbours.
The villagers began searching for the elderly woman. When they entered her house and checked inside, they found her body hidden in an iron trunk. An FIR has been registered against a villager identified as Daniel. He is currently on the run.
Initial probe suggests that the accused entered the woman’s house with the intention of committing theft. During the robbery attempt, he allegedly killed her. The case has been registered under Sections 103 (punishment for murder) and 331(3) (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking to commit an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
