After a series of hoax bomb threats that prompted the evacuation of several schools, the Chandigarh Administration on Wednesday issued an advisory asking educational institutions to stay calm and avoid spreading unnecessary panic.

The administration instructed all schools to without delay, inform the police if they receive any threatening email, message, or phone call so that action can be taken as per safety procedures. It also warned schools against declaring holidays or shutting down operations without verified information, saying such steps could cause needless anxiety among students, parents, and the public.

Stressing the need for alertness, the advisory urged school authorities to continue normal academic activities while staying watchful of any suspicious communication. The administration said security agencies are well-prepared to assess threats quickly and take necessary steps to ensure safety.

Officials underlined that close coordination between schools and law enforcement is essential to prevent panic and maintain order, especially in cases of false alarms. Schools were advised to strictly follow official instructions and refrain from sharing unverified information.

Earlier in the morning, the Chandigarh Police had confirmed that 26 schools in the city have received threatening emails and calls warning of possible bomb attacks.

Giving an update, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said that security teams have so far carried out detailed checks at 10 of the 26 schools and that no suspicious objects were found during the inspections.

The SSP said the email IDs used to send the threatening messages are being examined by the city’s cyber cell.

“Police teams are actively tracking all digital leads to identify the perpetrators,” she said. An FIR has been registered at Sector 17 police station, and the probe is underway.

When asked about earlier bomb threats received by the High Court and District Court, SSP Kaur said those cases are still under investigation. She added that police are working to link all available leads for a complete understanding of the incidents.

Appealing for calm, the SSP urged school managements, students, and parents not to panic. “There is no need to panic. Chandigarh police are fully alert, and security measures have been strengthened at all schools. Teams are continuously inspecting school premises, and the situation is under constant  monitoring,” she said.

Earlier, authorities said in a statement that public safety remains the top priority and urged people to immediately report any suspicious activity. Parents and students have been asked to cooperate with security personnel and follow the instructions issued by school authorities.

Police have assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to avoid any untoward incident and that continuous monitoring will remain in place across the city.
