The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday said 290 Sikh pilgrims have received visas to visit Pakistan to mark the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The jatha will leave from the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar on June 21.
SGPC Dharam Prachar Committee secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal said passports of 302 devotees had been submitted for visa processing so they could take part in the anniversary events at Gurdwara Sri Dera Sahib in Lahore and visit other historic Sikh shrines in Pakistan.
Out of the 302 applicants, 290 were granted visas, while 12 did not receive clearance from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Mathrewal said the group will visit several Sikh religious places in Pakistan before attending the main function to mark Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary on June 29. The pilgrims are scheduled to return to India on June 30 after completing the visit.
He also asked devotees whose visas have been approved to collect their passports from the SGPC office on June 20 and 21.
