The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested three people for allegedly transporting people to Myanmar through Thailand to force them into cybercrime activities.
The STF said the arrests were made after questioning nine victims from Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar districts, who were recently brought back from Myanmar.
According to officials, several young Indians from different states, including Uttarakhand, were living illegally in KK Park in Myawaddy town, Myanmar, before they were repatriated. The nine youths from Uttarakhand were brought from Delhi and reunited with their families.
During interrogation, the youths revealed that Indian agents were running an organised network. They allegedly took large amounts of money from them, sent them abroad using Thai visas, and then infiltrated them illegally into KK Park in Myawaddy.
Initial investigations showed that the agents contacted the victims either in person or through mobile apps like Telegram and WhatsApp. After taking money, they sent them to Bangkok on visas.
STF Assistant Superintendent of Police Kush Mishra said Sunil Kumar from Jaspur in Udham Singh Nagar district, and Nirav Chaudhary and Pradeep from Kashipur, have been arrested so far.
