Three people, including a woman, lost their lives on Monday when their car plunged into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district.
The tragic accident occurred as the Alto car, traveling from Rishikesh to Semandidhar, veered out of control and fell approximately 500 meters down a steep gorge near Bagbata on the Chamba-Koti Colony road.
According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sadar Sandeep Kumar, all three occupants of the vehicle died instantly due to the impact, and the car was completely destroyed.
Upon receiving information about the accident, personnel from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the district administration swiftly reached the site and carried out the challenging operation of retrieving the bodies from the ravine.
The victims were identified as Vijay Prakash Jagudi (37) from Rishikesh, Sonu Kumar (37) from Haridwar, and his wife, Monika (34). Both Jagudi and Kumar were teachers, and the couple had been returning after the weekend to resume their duties when the accident took place.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control, while local officials have urged travelers to exercise caution on the mountainous roads of the region.
