4 killed, several injured in Budgam truck-vehicle crash

A dumper truck collided with a Tata Sumo passenger vehicle at Waterwani along the Budgam Ring Road around 10:30 pm.

At least four people were killed, while several others were injured after a passenger van and a dump truck collided head-on in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district late on Saturday evening, officials said.


According to sources, a dumper truck collided with a Tata Sumo passenger vehicle at Waterwani along the Budgam Ring Road around 10:30 pm.
The impact of the accident was so severe that four passengers died on the spot, while others were critically wounded in the crash.


Locals and police personnel immediately rushed the victims to the nearby hospital for treatment. Some of the locals present at the scene said that the rescue operation continued late into the night as authorities worked to clear the mangled vehicles from the road.


The four deceased have been identified as Zainab (10), daughter of Nisar Ahmad Rather; Nisar Ahmad Rather (40), son of Ghulam Ahmad Rather; Bashir Ahmad Rather (36), son of Mohammad Qasim Rather; and Khatoon (60), wife of Ghulam Hussain Rather — all residents of Mahwara village.
Seven others who sustained injuries in the crash were identified as Zoona Bano (70), wife of the late Ghulam Mohammad Rather; Shah (50), wife of Mohammad Qasim Tantray; Gulshan (50), wife of Ghulam Mustafa Rather; Safiya (40), wife of Mohammad Qasim Dar; Tasaduq Hussain (25), son of Bashir Ahmad Dar; and Raja Begum (48), wife of Mehdi Rahter, all residents of Mahwara, along with Jasbeer Singh (32), son of Veru Singh of Gurdaspur, Punjab, who was working as a crane conductor at the Ring Road site in Narbal.


Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep shock over the incident and has since directed the administration to provide every possible assistance and ensure urgent medical care for the injured. The cause of the accident shall be thoroughly investigated,” CM Omar said in a post on X. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and launched a formal investigation.
