Four people, including two children, were killed and one woman was injured after a speeding canter hit a parked car on the KMP Expressway near Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar early Wednesday.
The accident happened around 2:15 am. Some of the injured, who are in serious condition, were referred to PGIMS Rohtak.
The victims were identified as Anjali from Meerut, her two nieces aged 3 and 5, and Hamza Ali Hasmi from Moradabad. Anjali’s sister, Kirti, was seriously injured and is being treated at PGIMS Rohtak. Sixteen migrant labourers who were travelling in the canter were also injured in the incident.
Police said the family was returning to Uttar Pradesh from Rajasthan after a religious trip. The accident occurred when the driver parked the car on the expressway to relive himself while the other passengers stayed inside the vehicle.

“In the meantime, a canter hit the car leaving Anjali, Hasmi and two girls dead on the spot and Kirti injured. All of them were taken to the civil hospital in Bahadurgarh from where Kirti was referred to PGIMS, Rohtak. The canter driver managed to flee the spot,” said the car driver in the police complaint.
The canter driver fled the scene. The police have registered a case of rash driving and death due to negligence and are trying to trace him.
