Polling for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections has gained momentum across all 24 constituencies on both sides of the Pir Panjal range, covering seven districts.
As of 1 PM, an impressive 41.17% voter turnout has been recorded, according to the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K.
Officials reported brisk polling across all constituencies, with expectations of a higher overall turnout. Voters from all age groups, including the elderly and first-time voters, participated with enthusiasm.
The voter turnout varied across different Assembly constituencies. In South Kashmir, Pampore saw 28.88%, Tral registered 26.75%, and Pulwama recorded 32.55%.
Rajpora had 31.04%, Zainapora recorded 37.11%, and Shopian saw 40.45%. D.H. Pora led with 43.66%, while Kulgam followed with 39.75%. Devsar reported 36.78%, and Dooru recorded 41.30%, while Kokernag (ST) registered 41.00%.
Anantnag West had 32.07%, and Anantnag itself recorded 27.40%.
Bijbehara (Srigufwara) saw 39.20% turnout, while Shangus-Anantnag East reported 36.73%. Pahalgam recorded the highest turnout in the region at 47.68%.
In the Jammu Division, Inderwal saw the highest turnout at 60.01%, followed by Kishtwar at 54.36% and Padder-Nagseni with 56.48%.
Bhaderwah recorded 48.37%, Doda 50.34%, and Doda West 54.80%. In Ramban, 50.56% was recorded, with Banihal registering 49.00%.
Polling began at 7 AM under tight security arrangements.
