Punjab Police on Thursday busted an illegal arms-smuggling module with the arrest of two suspects and recovery of 5.5 kg of heroin, a top police official said. The Counter Intelligence Wing in Amritsar also recovered four pistols and 10 cartridges from the accused, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
In a post on X, Yadav wrote, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the arrested accused were in contact with cross-border smugglers and had received arms and ammunition consignments for further distribution in Punjab.”
A case has been registered in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages of the network and to identify other associates connected to the module, he added.
Earlier on Monday, Punjab Police had apprehended a suspect connected to an alleged arms and drug trafficking module and seized seven high-end pistols and 2.1 kg of heroin from him, a senior official said.
“In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted a drug and illegal arms-smuggling module, arrested one accused, and seized 2.1 kg heroin along with seven sophisticated pistols,” DGP Gaurav Yadav had said on X.
Initial probe showed the accused was in touch with a foreign-based smuggler using virtual numbers and was receiving drug and arms consignment supplies for distribution in Punjab, the DGP added.
