A five-year-old boy was reportedly beaten to death by a 22-year-old man in Kancheepuram's Tamil Nadu after the boy offered resistance when a sexual assault was being attempted on him, officials reported on Sunday. The accused Boldev Masuva, who hails from Assam, has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police.
The boy, whose parents are migrant workers from Bihar living in Karumangazhani village, had gone missing on June 9. A search operation has been launched by the police after the boy’s parents registered a complaint. Days after, the decomposed body of the child was found in a secluded spot near the village.

The police, earlier, suspected that the boy could have died after falling from a height that led to a head injury. However, footage caught on CCTV cameras from the region showed the boy being removed by Masuva. Following this lead, he was located and arrested.
Under interrogation, Masuva is said to have admitted to having tried to sexually assault the child. When the boy cried and struggled, Masuva had confessed to having murdered him with a stone to keep him quiet.
A case has been lodged and the matter is being investigated further.
