58 individuals from Telangana’s Kamareddy district hospitalised after consuming adulterated liquor.

At least 58 people fell ill after allegedly consuming adulterated liquor in several villages across Telangana’s Kamareddy district. The affected individuals, who began displaying unusual behaviour after consuming the liquor, raised alarm among locals, prompting swift medical intervention.

The victims were identified from the villages of Ankoll, Ankoll Tanda, Durki, and Damarancha in Nasrullabad Mandal, as well as from Beerkur. All those taken ill were promptly shifted to hospitals in Banswada and Nizamabad, where they are receiving medical treatment and undergoing further examination.

In the wake of the incident, the Telangana Excise Department has launched an investigation to trace the source of the suspected adulterated alcohol. Officials have begun collecting liquor samples from the affected villages to determine the composition of the alcohol and whether contamination was involved.

Sub-Collector Kiranmayi has taken serious note of the incident and ordered a detailed inquiry. As an immediate precaution, she has directed that the licences of liquor outlets suspected of selling the tainted liquor be cancelled pending further investigation.

The incident has renewed focus on alcohol regulation and law enforcement in the state. Just last month, in March 2025, a head constable and a constable in Mahabubabad district were suspended for hosting a liquor party inside a police station.

During the party, the officers were reportedly unavailable to address complaints from the public, sparking outrage among residents. Following the backlash, the Superintendent of Police for Mahabubabad took disciplinary action and suspended the two officers involved.

The Kamareddy incident has raised fresh concerns about the monitoring of liquor distribution and the role of enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety, as authorities continue efforts to identify the exact cause of the mass illness.
