A 60-year-old man, Babu Vaja, saved his and his son’s lives by killing a leopard after the animal attacked them. Vaja, a farmer in Gujarat, successfully fought off and killed a leopard using a sickle and a spear. The incident was reported on Wednesday night in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat.
As per the reports, Vaja was resting in his “verandah” (a porch along the outside of a building) when the leopard jumped on him, grabbed his arm, and started pulling him.
“Upon hearing my cries, my son Shardul rushed to save me. However, the leopard pounced on him and injured him. When I tried to save Shardul, the leopard jumped on me again. During those few minutes, it attacked us several times,” Vaja stated.
Vaja and his son were immediately rushed to a hospital in Una and are currently receiving medical treatment for their wounds.
A case has also been registered against Vaja for killing the leopard.
Forest officials have since recovered the leopard’s remains and sent them for a post-mortem examination to officially confirm the cause of death. Preliminary reports suggest the animal was a fully grown adult.
The incident occurred in a region known for its proximity to wildlife habitats, where human-animal conflict is a recurring issue.
Authorities had urged local villagers to remain vigilant, particularly when working in fields during the dawn and twilight hours when predators are most active.
