7 years on, promises remain unfulfilled for Pulwama martyrs’ kin

The country marked the seventh anniversary of the Pulwama attack on Saturday. In the 2019 incident, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into a CRPF bus that was part of a convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, killing 40 CRPF personnel.

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the 2019 Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 40 CRPF personnel were martyred.

On the seventh anniversary of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, families of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who lost their lives gathered to remember their loved ones and pay tribute to them. Some families said promises made in honour of the martyrs are still unfulfilled.

Sukhjit Kaur, widow of CRPF jawan Jaimal Singh, said the stadium announced in her husband’s name has not yet been built. She also said that a memorial gate on Ghalauti Road, which was to be constructed in his honour, remains incomplete.

Jaimal Singh, a resident of Ghalauti village in Moga district of Punjab, was driving the CRPF bus which was targeted and blown up by terrorists on February 14, 2019. “Only we know how difficult it is to live without him,” Kaur added. She said her son, who was five-and-a-half years old when his father died, is now 12 and often remembers him. “He now understands that what happened cannot be changed,” she said.

In Gandiwind village of Tarn Taran, the family of martyr Sukhjinder Singh also paid tribute and remembered his sacrifice. His brother, Gurjant Singh, demanded that the government school named after Sukhjinder be upgraded to include classes up to Class 12. He also asked authorities to complete the stadium being built in his memory.
