A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Lethpora in Pulwama on Saturday to honour the 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel martyred in the suicide bomb attack on February 14, 2019.
Officials from the CRPF, civil administration, and other security forces paid heartfelt tributes to the brave jawans who lost their lives when a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus convoy, killing 40 personnel and injuring dozens in one of the deadliest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s history.
Officers present at the ceremony saluted the courage, devotion, and supreme sacrifice of the fallen soldiers of the nation. In a post on X, the CRPF wrote: “Lest we forget. On 14 Feb 2019, 40 bravehearts of CRPF India made the supreme sacrifice in Pulwama. Their valour remains etched in our hearts forever. DG GP Singh and all ranks pay solemn tributes to our martyrs. We stand firmly with their families.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage, describing the martyrs as “brave heroes” whose “devotion, resolve, and service remain forever etched in our collective consciousness.” Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also remembered the fallen soldiers and offered tributes to their sacrifice.
February 14 is observed across the country as Black Day to mark the seventh anniversary of the Pulwama attack, one of the most tragic terror incidents in J&K’s history, perpetrated by a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) suicide bomber.
