Punjab Police on Monday busted a narcotics and illegal arms module after arresting four individuals and recovering more than nine kilograms of heroin along with two pistols and 40 cartridges in Hoshiarpur, officials said.

In a post on X, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said, “In a major breakthrough, District Hoshiarpur Police has busted an inter-state and foreign-linked narcotics and illegal arms module, apprehended four accused, and recovered 9.925 kg heroin, two foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges.”

According to preliminary investigations, the accused were acting on directions from local handlers of foreign-based gangsters involved in drug trafficking and the supply of illegal weapons, Yadav added.

An FIR has been registered at the Garhshankar police station in Hoshiarpur. “Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire network,” the DGP said.

Under the leadership of DGP Gaurav Yadav, Punjab Police launched its campaign ‘War on Drugs 2.0’ to dismantle the existing drug network in the state. After launching the operation, more than 12,000 police personnel conducted targeted strikes and massive raids across all 8,278 locations linked to gangsters, resulting in the arrest of over 3,260 individuals within just 72 hours.

Since then, raids targeting the drug nexus and terror support infrastructure in the state have hit hard with intensified surveillance at checkpoints.
Several persons linked to terror syndicates, foreign-based gangs, narco-terror networks, and cross-border terrorism are being systematically dismantled by the police in 2026.
