The alleged abuse started after she posted a news report on July 24 about the Renukaswamy murder case hearing in the Supreme Court, where she demanded justice for the victim's family.

Two men have been arrested by Bengaluru Police for allegedly sending filthy messages and threatening former Mandya MP and actress Ramya of rape and death. Bengaluru police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh on Saturday said the two were arrested on a complaint filed early this week by the actress, who is also known as Divya Spandana.

Addressing a press conference, the police commissioner said, "Eleven more people have been identified for their active role in putting up abusive material on the internet and will be arrested shortly."

Ramya had spoken with the police commissioner on July 28 to file a formal complaint against 43 social network accounts for having sent her obscene messages and issuing rape and death threats.

The alleged abuse started after she posted a news report on July 24 about the Renukaswamy murder case hearing in the Supreme Court, where she demanded justice for the victim's family. Kannada actor Darshan is one of the main accused in the case, reports suggest.

After a verification process, the Bengaluru police's central crime branch and social media monitoring unit had identified 13 accounts that were actively engaging in the abuse, Singh stated.

Two of the men arrested are from adjoining districts, he added.

Asked if the accused were fans of actor Darshan, Seemant Kumar Singh stated that this aspect was still being looked into. "CCB and cybercrime police are actively working on the case," he said.

Ramya, meanwhile, turned to the social media site X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to express gratitude to Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara, Bengaluru police commissioner, and the CCB team as a whole for their swift action.

"The Bengaluru city police have drawn a line against misogynistic violence. Legal action has been taken," she tweeted.

The message, she said, is clear: "It is hard to get away from the hand of the law when it comes to defending women's honour and keeping them safe in our city."
