An Agniveer soldier sustained injuries after his weapon went off accidentally along the Line of Control in Poonch district on Thursday.
Officials said the Agniveer accidentally shot himself in the right toe during a post-firing drill while cleaning his weapon earlier on Thursday morning.
The injured soldier has been identified as Krishna Pal Singh. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, they said.
Earlier, on October 25, a police constable was grievously injured after his service rifle went off accidentally at the Jammu and railway station area on Saturday, the official said.
Selection Grade Constable Showkat Ahmad was on duty at the station when he received a bullet injury in his abdomen due to an accidental discharge of his rifle around 8.30 am, he said.
The injured was immediately rushed to the government medical college (GMC) hospital by his colleagues, he added.
Incidents of accidental weapon discharges among security personnel have caused injuries to several soldiers across Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, with a noticeable rise in such cases recently.
An accidental or negligent firearms discharge can have a range of devastating consequences, including physical injuries, fatalities, severe emotional trauma, and serious legal repercussions.
