In a striking blend of technology and politics, a 3D AI-powered hologram of Vijay is drawing public attention amid the ongoing Assembly election campaign in Tamil Nadu.
The initiative, introduced by Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Vinoth Ravi in Kumbakonam, is being seen as a novel strategy in a fiercely contested political landscape. The state is witnessing a four-cornered contest involving the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) led by Seeman, and TVK led by Vijay.
Senior leaders across parties, including Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and BJP figures such as K. Annamalai and Tamilisai Soundararajan, are actively campaigning across constituencies.
Vijay, who recently filed his nomination from the Perambur constituency, has been drawing massive crowds at campaign events, often leading to logistical challenges. Due to the overwhelming turnout, several planned appearances have had to be curtailed or cancelled.

In response, party candidates have turned to technology to bridge the gap. The AI-generated hologram projects a lifelike, three-dimensional image of Vijay delivering campaign messages, creating the impression of his physical presence at rallies. A rehearsal for the holographic display was recently conducted in Kumbakonam.
Holography, which uses laser light to create 3D projections, has rarely been deployed at this scale in electoral campaigns in the state. Combined with artificial intelligence, the technology allows leaders to “appear” in multiple locations simultaneously.
According to party sources, the hologram has received the necessary clearance from election authorities. TVK functionaries in Kumbakonam East district plan to deploy it extensively during the final days of campaigning.
As digital innovation reshapes political outreach, the use of AI-driven holograms marks a new phase in electioneering—blurring the line between physical presence and virtual campaigning.
