Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that the leadership of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had ‘surrendered’ to the Bharatiya Janata Party due to corruption.
He asserted that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Congress and their allies were safeguarding Tamil language, culture and history, adding that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was aware that Tamils could challenge its ideology. Emphasising federalism, Gandhi said every state must have its own voice and fair representation.
“People of each state should govern themselves. But the BJP does not think this way… it believes in one tradition, one language and one history,” he said.
He maintained that Tamil Nadu should be run by its own people and accused the BJP of attempting to weaken the powers of states.

“The BJP does not follow the Constitution… It seeks to weaken states,” he alleged. Referring to the situation in Manipur, Gandhi said, “Look at what has happened there — once a peaceful state, now engulfed in violence. Hundreds have died and the conflict continues.”
Recalling parliamentary debates on the women’s reservation and delimitation bills, Gandhi claimed the BJP’s underlying aim was to alter the country’s electoral framework.
“There is only one way to describe what they were doing—it was anti-national,” he said. “That is why we opposed the bill in Parliament, and we will continue to resist any legislation that seeks to reduce representation for any section of the country,” he added.
