The opposition AIADMK on Wednesday released its first list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, marking the party’s formal entry into the electoral race.
Party General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) will once again contest from his stronghold, Edappadi, reaffirming his leadership role in the party’s campaign.
With the announcement of the poll schedule by the Election Commission of India (ECI), political activity across the state has gathered momentum. As per the schedule, nomination filing will commence on March 30, polling will be conducted in a single phase on April 23, and counting of votes will take place on May 4.
The first list reflects a strategic blend of experience and continuity. Of the 23 candidates announced, 20 are former ministers, while 15 sitting MLAs have been renominated, indicating the party’s reliance on seasoned leaders and established political figures.
Party sources said the selection aims to leverage administrative experience and constituency familiarity in key seats, as AIADMK looks to strengthen its position against rivals in a highly competitive election.
The release of the list signals the beginning of AIADMK’s structured campaign rollout. Additional candidate lists are expected in the coming days as the party continues alliance discussions and finalises seat-sharing arrangements.
