Akal Takht’s officiating Jathedar, Kuldip Singh Gargaj, on Monday summoned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to the Akal Takht secretariat on January 15.
The summon sought an explanation for the Chief Minister’s remarks, which were termed insulting to Sikh institutions and related matters.
Jathedar Gargaj said the summons was issued due to Mann’s alleged repeated statements that demeaned Sikh institutions. He said these remarks have deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
The Jathedar further alleged that the Chief Minister made objectionable comments on core Sikh principles such as Daswandh and the Guru Ki Golak. He said such remarks show disregard for important religious traditions.
He also claimed that videos showing the Chief Minister’s conduct toward images of Sikh Gurus and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were disrespectful. The Jathedar added that since Mann is not a ‘Sabat Surat Sikh’, he cannot appear before the sacred Takht’s fasil and rather has been told to appear at the secretariat.
