An all-women police team was entrusted with security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Lakhpati Didi’ event in Gujarat’s Navsari district on Saturday.
The initiative, taken to commemorate International Women’s Day, saw approximately 2,500 female officers ensuring seamless security for the high-profile gathering.
Over 1.5 lakh women attended the event, held at Vansi Borsi village, where Modi interacted with beneficiaries of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme and felicitated them with certificates.
The security operation, exclusively managed by female personnel, was the first such exercise of its kind in the country.
“Women police personnel have made the security arrangements for the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ programme,” said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Nipuna Torwane, who supervised the all-women security team.

“Since this is a very high-level programme, all precautions have been taken. From constabulary to higher-ranking officials, personnel have been preparing, rehearsing, and conducting point-to-point briefings over the last three days,” she added.
A total of 2,145 women police constables, 61 women inspectors, 187 women sub-inspectors, 19 women deputy superintendents of police, five women superintendents of police, and a deputy inspector general-rank officer were deployed to handle security operations.
Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, hailed the decision to assign women the responsibility of security at a major political event, calling it a landmark step in the country’s policing framework.
“This initiative will give a strong message to the world on International Women’s Day, highlighting the crucial role women play in making Gujarat a safe and secure state,” Sanghavi remarked.
“It is a milestone not only for Gujarat but for the entire country in law enforcement,” Sanghavi added.
While female officers managed the event venue’s security, male personnel were stationed for parking and traffic control.
