Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari on Friday alleged that first the People’s Democratic Party and now the National Conference are misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir and ignoring key regional issues.
He questioned both parties’ stance on Article 370, Article 35A and the statehood issue, along with unemployment, job promises and reservation-related promises that he claimed remain unfulfilled despite the National Conference being in power for nearly two years. He accused both the parties of misleading people on issues that are critical to the region and its residents.
During a media interaction in Srinagar, Bukhari said people defecting from the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party would not face humiliation due to their past links with these political parties.
“Inshallah, I promise them and the people that together we will address their issues while ensuring respect and dignity,” Bukhari said. When asked about the issue of reservation and its intricacies, Bukhari said, “Reservation should be based on population parameters. A population of 70 per cent should receive 70 per cent of the jobs, while the rest 30 per cent should get 30 per cent, instead of 70 per cent,” he said.
“People living in Jammu and Kashmir must get jobs based on the regional demographics,” he added. He said his criticism was not aimed at any specific party or community but was aimed at those who governed the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir over the past 75 years. He also questioned the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration over unfulfilled promises.
“Where is Article 370? Where is 35A? Where is statehood? The PAGD formed by you has only thrown dust into the eyes of the people,” he said. In an indirect jibe, he said, “Where are the people who called us the agents of New Delhi to win elections when we were trying to save lands and jobs? Today they are all appeasing LG sir.”
