Three individuals were apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district for allegedly spreading rumours on social media with the intention of disturbing public peace, police said on Thursday.
Police in the Sopore area of north Kashmir apprehended three individuals for sharing misinformation and circulating old videos while presenting them as recent incidents, with the aim of creating unrest, a police spokesperson said. He said a case has been registered against the accused at Sopore police station.
Acting quickly, police identified and arrested the accused persons, the spokesperson said, adding that their identities have not been disclosed. Further investigation into the case is currently underway, he added.
Police also advised the public not to create, share or forward unverified content on social media, warning that such activities could invite strict legal action.
