Registration for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra began on Tuesday, drawing massive crowds of devotees eager to sign up for the annual pilgrimage. Visuals from registration counters showed long queues as people waited patiently to complete the necessary formalities.

A key requirement for registration is a mandatory health check-up, which is being conducted for all pilgrims due to the physically demanding conditions of the Yatra. One devotee expressed excitement and shared that this was his second time embarking on the journey, adding that the health checks were important since the terrain can be dangerous for those with medical complications.

Among the enthusiastic pilgrims was Sonia Mehra, who also mentioned it was her second time participating in the sacred journey. She said she was thrilled to be part of the Yatra again and hoped to take part in it every year going forward.

This year, the Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3 and will simultaneously commence from both the Pahalgam route in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and the Baltal route in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district via Sonamarg. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 9, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

The official dates for the Yatra were announced on March 5 by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during the 48th Board meeting of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) held at Raj Bhawan. During the meeting, several measures were proposed to enhance facilities and services for the devotees, anticipating a significant increase in the number of pilgrims for the 2025 Yatra.

The discussion included plans to expand accommodation facilities in Jammu, Srinagar, and other key locations. Additionally, there were proposals to operationalise Yatri facilitation centres for e-KYC, issue RFID cards, and enable on-spot registration at places such as Nowgam and Katra Railway Stations.

Further upgrades were recommended for facilities at Baltal, Pahalgam, Nunwan, and Pantha Chowk in Srinagar to better meet the needs of the pilgrims.
