A case has been registered after a statue of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was allegedly defaced in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district, police officials said on Sunday.
According to the police, information about the incident was received at around 4 pm on Saturday. The statue, installed in a park near Alkeshwar Ghat, along the banks of the Alaknanda river, was found damaged.
Police said that passersby first noticed red and black paint smeared across the face of the statue of Babasaheb and immediately informed the authorities.
Following the complaint, a case was registered against unidentified persons under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was launched.

A police team reached the spot, inspected the site and collected evidence. Arrangements were also made to clean and restore the statue. To identify and apprehend those involved, police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area. They have also appealed to the public to come forward with any information, photographs, or video evidence related to the incident.
Pauri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sarvesh Panwar assured that the accused would be identified and taken into custody at the earliest.
