Flames first erupted in the front portion of the bus before spreading rapidly.

A tragic road accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, near Chinnatekur village in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, claiming the lives of 20 individuals. The incident involved a private travel bus that caught fire following a collision with a two-wheeler, leading to a catastrophic blaze that engulfed the vehicle.

According to preliminary reports, the bus was carrying approximately 40 passengers at the time of the accident. Of these, 18 passengers have been confirmed alive, though several bodies were reported to be severely charred, complicating efforts to identify the deceased.

Official sources stated that the accident took place around 3:30 am. The collision between the bus and the two-wheeler sparked a massive fire that rapidly spread throughout the bus. Eyewitnesses described how the flames initially erupted in the front section of the vehicle before quickly consuming the entire bus. Amid the chaos, 12 passengers were able to escape by breaking open the emergency exit, sustaining only minor injuries. These survivors were promptly transported to Kurnool Government Hospital for medical treatment.

The incident was compounded by heavy rainfall in the area at the time, which authorities believe may have contributed to the collision. The bus was completely destroyed in the fire, leaving little more than a charred frame.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “I am shocked to learn about the devastating bus fire accident near Chinna Tekur village in Kurnool district. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. Government authorities will extend all possible support to the injured and affected families.”

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to the collision. Further details are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
