In a tragic incident, a speeding car ran over two teenage girls in Chandigarh’s Sector-45 while they were crossing the road. The elder sister, Sajaf (19), died on the spot, and her younger sister, Isha (17), was critically injured.
Isha is currently receiving treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32.
An eyewitness said a black Mahindra Thar hit the girls in the afternoon in Sector-46. The SUV driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have seized the vehicle, but the accused is still at large.
Meanwhile, tensions rose at GMCH Hospital in Sector 32 a day after the accident. The victims’ family alleged that doctors harassed them.
The girls’ father said that instead of focusing on treatment, the doctors threatened to throw them out. “They even called the guards and tried to force us outside,” he said. He also questioned the police, saying the Thar driver has not been arrested yet, even though CCTV cameras are installed in the city.
The family warned that they would hold a larger demonstration if proper action is not taken soon.
According to reports, over 10 challans have been issued against the Thar driver, but no arrest has been made. Police said the driver’s house was traced to Sector-21, but he no longer lives there.
