Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of two police officers, saying the entire force was distressed by the loss.
On the deaths of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar and ASI Sandeep Lather Singh said, “Two lives have been lost and we are distressed by it. We are seriously thinking about what to do so that such a situation doesn't arise again.”
He said the police department plans to strengthen the Officers’ Wives’ Association. “Our work is limited not just to the officers but extends to their families so that a situation does not arise where one takes their own life,” he added.
The DGP also highlighted the importance of remembering police martyrs and veterans. He said it was heartening that between 1967 and 1977, no police personnel lost their lives, and the force is committed to maintaining that record. The police department is upgrading technology to improve efficiency, he added.
“Our priority is to ensure capable and experienced officers manage their areas effectively,” he said. “We are focusing on maintaining law and order during public gatherings and ensuring strict control over the supply chain to jails for criminals. With Diwali approaching, necessary precautions are being taken.”
He said "The recent suicides of two colleagues have prompted serious consideration of strengthening the Officer Wife Association to improve the living environment and family atmosphere for police personnel, aiming to prevent such incidents and ensure mental stability to face challenges. Policing is a work of facing challenges."
IPS Om Parkash Singh was given additional charge as Haryana DGP after DGP Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on leave after allegations linked to the death of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar.
Earlier, Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar was found dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7, in what is suspected to be a case of suicide. In another tragic incident on Tuesday, ASI Sandeep was found dead under suspicious circumstances near an agricultural field in Ladhot village, Rohtak.
