Andhra Pradesh is moving a step closer towards emerging as a tech powerhouse with the government greenlighting the formation of the AI Living Labs Foundation. This not-for-profit entity will promote a robust artificial intelligence system "centered on concrete learning, research, and innovation." The initiative will directly address the state’s ambitious vision of having "one AI-trained individual per family."
The foundation is set up as a Section 8 company and will operate AI Living Labs across the state using a hub-and-spoke model. By providing shared infrastructure like GPU computing power, specialised AI tools, and datasets, the labs will be a resource for students, startups, researchers, and government departments alike.
Apart from providing resources, the foundation will also take care of curriculum development, skilling programmes, and certification programmes to ensure the availability of a future-ready workforce.
In terms of research, the initiative aims at developing viable AI models and large language models, with a strong focus on applying this in critical industries such as agriculture, health, manufacturing, and fintech.
The foundation will be funded through grants, corporate social responsibility, and partnerships, with laid-out structures in terms of governance and intellectual property, ensuring transparency within the field.
